Slam Man
The SlamMan is a new development in boxing and fitness training. It combines the guidance of a personal trainer with the striking surface of a punching bag.
There are eight LED lights on the SlamMan that light up telling you where to hit. There are different routines where each light lights up in a different sequence. You can also adjust the sensitivity of the SlamMan, and once the sensor is pushed down, you have to hit harder for the sensors to pick up your punches.
It is easy to tailor your workout to your needs. The difficulty can be adjusted to suit your skill level (which is beginner, intermediate and advanced) including 5 boxing exercise programs to choose from. And once you get experienced enough, there is the option of choosing a random mode. All the while, the onboard computer will time and score your workout, so you can keep a log of your performance level. Depending on your height, you can adjust the height of the SlamMan from 5' 2" up to 6'.
The SlamMan comes in two parts: the torso and the base, which are then attached to each other. You have to fill the base with sand, but once you do it weighs in at 256KG which will stop even the heaviest hitters from moving it.
I found the SlamMan to be a great workout. After a stressful day at work I can let off steam and have a good workout at the same time. Punching bags just don't cut it because you don't get any feedback on your strikes and with the lack of a workout routine, it's hard to stay motivated. Another advantage over a punching bag is that since the SlamMan is shaped like a human opponent, it amounts to better technique training because parts like head, torso and kidneys can be targeted. And the best thing about it is that it doesn't hit back!
With the SlamMan acting as my personal trainer and score keeper, the added element of fun keeps me going. What I try to do every week is try to beat my own personal score.
The SlamMan now comes in two colours: a blue and black version and the newer silver and black model. In addition to the SlamMan, the package comes with a pair of 12oz boxing gloves, an instructional video and a low-fat meal plan
